Do it in the summer when you have half a chance of some decent weather...
As for trekking around, avoid London and Paris as the prices are outrageous.
For the UK, try Bath, Newcastle, Cornwall, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, Stirling, Glasgow, Norwich, Lake District, Peake District, Northumberland (home of Harry Potters castle), Yorkshire countryside.
In France, wherever you go, you should get great food. Personally, I love the champagne region.
For accommodation here (UK), do a search for youth hostels as they tend to be the cheapest.

Good video, great idea with your whistle and compass connected to your backpack zips with string.
The wind up torch that charges your phone is fantastic. Do you know where they can be purchased?

aluminum stakes weight really few grams, and have the perfect conformation for the use. I prefer 20 grams more but to have the certainty of the operation

I have tried the plastic also but I have found the aluminum nails used to hold gutters in place are the lightest and the easiest to carry.

Anyway take the stakes by all means!!!
